HOW TO PLAY
Players are dealt four face down cards. In Omaha the best combination of cards that will give us the final winner is made using two of each player’s four hole cards and three of the community cards revealed by the dealer gradually after four rounds of betting.
Omaha High pot limit means that only the best combination of five cards wins (two from the player’s hand and three from the community cards) and that every time a player wants to place a new bet, or wants to increase an existing one bet, it should not exceed the amount that is in the pot up to that time.
THE RULES
Button
The button moves clockwise around the table after each hand, and the player “on the button” gets his cards last and bet last in each round
Blind Bets
The first 2 players to the left of the button are forced to put in the blind bets. Typically, the first player puts in the small blind, equal to half of the minimum bet, while the second player puts in the big blind, equal to a full minimum bet. For example, if the small blind would be €5 the big blind would be €10.
The Deal and Betting Rounds
The first two players to the left of the button place the blind bets. Starting with the first player to the left of the button, each player is dealt 4 face down cards, called pocket cards. Thus begins the first round of betting. The first action after the deal is made by the player to the left of the big blind.
Both the given player and the following players have the possibility to call (i.e. to place an equal bet), to fold, to raise (to increase the said bet), or to say pot (i.e. to bet the largest possible amount, which is the total amount of money in the pot up to that time).
The pot is calculated from the sum of the bet that may be faced (call) with the total of the bets that are on the table including the call.
*The pot in this particular case is €150 because there has been a €10 bet that has to be dealt with, the pot in the center of the table is €100 and the bets on the table are €40 (including the call that the player who says pot).
The Flop
The flop is 3 cards laid face up in the center of the table, these cards serve as common cards. Before opening the flop the dealer burns one card.
Another round of betting ensues, with the first remaining player to the left of the button starting the action. All players must put the same amount into the pot, or fold before the round has ended. The same rules apply for both the bidding and the raising in each round from now on.
The Turn
The dealer now burns one more card and then displays the fourth common card on the table, so all players have six cards to play with. Another betting round occurs, starting with the first player remaining to the left of the button.
The River
A final card is turned face up, again after having burnt one card, bringing the total number of common cards faces up on the board to 5. A final round of betting occurs, starting with the first player remaining to the left of the button.
Showdown
After betting is completed and if there are at least two players left, the showdown takes place, during which the winner is determined based on the best combination consisting of a mandatory 2 of the players’ cards and 3 of the community cards. During the showdown, the player who opens his cards first is the one who made the first call in the last round of betting. There is a chance of a tie in which players with equal hands share the pot. After the showdown, the button advances to the next player clockwise and deals the next hand.
